The Legend Continues Program

The Legend Continues Program

Legend has it that in the 13th Century, in the area of Yorkshire England, Robin of Loxley, better known as Robin Hood, made a name for himself by lightening the purses of the wealthy to benefit the needy.

Today, the legend continues. We’ll provide you with a legendary meal before we lighten your purse and invite you to participate in selecting a worthy organization. Loxley’s will donate 5% of your food bill to the featured organization you choose. Being part of a legend has never been so easy or so much fun.

We encourage charities and organizations to participate in this program by becoming one of our featured charities. Click here to apply.

Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley

Mission and History

Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, Make-A-Wish is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 62 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish every 38 minutes and has granted over 218,000 wishes in the U.S. since inception.

Wish Granting

Since 1986, Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley has granted over 4,470 wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses between the ages of 2 ½ and 18. Our chapter serves the following 10 counties: Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, Perry and Philadelphia. Make-A-Wish becomes aware of a child’s wish through referrals made by parents and guardians or medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses, social workers, and child-life specialists. Most wishes fall within one of the four categories: “I want to have…” “I want to go…” “I want to be…” “I want to meet…”

Funding

Of the Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley’s revenue, 86% is dedicated to our wish-granting efforts. Make-A-Wish is a 501(c)(3) corporation, making contributions tax deductible. For the 7th year in a row, the chapter received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org), America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. As reported by Charity Navigator, the chapter ranks the highest among all Make-A-Wish chapters in the country. Habitat for Humanity Vets Build

Habitat for Humanity builds, renovates, and repairs simple, decent affordable homes with lower-income families who are living in inadequate housing and unable to secure conventional financing. Habitat is a people to-people partnership drawing families and communities in need of hope and revitalization together
with volunteers and resources.

Beginning May 2016, Habitat for Humanity will start a Veterans Build. Groundbreaking for the project will be held in April, and the construction of the home will begin with the raising of the walls during Blitz Week in May 2016. The Veterans build property was generously donated by the Drinkus, Fry and Acquaviva families. The prebuilt walls for the home were donated by Crossroads Missions.

The build will take approximately six months to complete. Once the project is finished, the three bedroom, one & a half
bath home will be sold to a qualified Habitat family only after the family has completed all of the requirements. The home will be built almost completely by unskilled volunteers, led by skilled volunteer supervisors and Habitat staff. Funding for the project will be provided through in-kind donations from the Veteran community.
